I’d like to write an article for your readers about how to start a home-based business. The article is totally free. In it, I can talk about a variety of factors, including:

How to get your first customers or clients,

What goes into becoming a consultant,

How to stay productive when you’re growing a business from home, and/or

Which home-based business tools, office equipment, and supplies are indispensable.

If you’re open to receiving an article, please let me know.

    Thank you for your consideration!

I am part of a Justice for All Ministry with Christ United Methodist Church in Columbia. One of the most important activities we can get involved with is voter registration. We have received training. Do you have any upcoming scheduled voter registration events for which we might volunteer our services? Thanks for considering.

My wife and I have not received absentee ballots for either the April 28, 2020 Special election or June 2, 2020 Presidential election eventhough we registered for absentee ballots about 2 months ago. I checked status and Board of Elections site claims they were mailed. Have other Howard County registered voters encountered similar circumstances? Concerned Citizen. I am emailing Guy Mickley at Howard County Board of Elections as well. Sincerely, John Miller Kenner

We are so very sorry for the late notice on this announcement. On January 10, 2020 at 3:00 p.m., The Howard County Historical Society, in partnership with the Office of Howard County Tourism, will hold a reception at Howard County Tourism, 8267 Main Street, Ellicott City to kick-off 2020 as the “Year of the Howard County Woman” with Honorary Spokeswoman, former County Executive Liz Bobo. The current County Executive, Calvin Ball will also be providing remarks at the kick-off.

As a part of the year-long commemoration, the Historical Society will present an exhibit at the Howard County Fair on the Suffragette Movement and the 1st Women Voters of Howard County. After the Fair exhibition in August, the exhibit will be featured at the Museum of Howard County History for the remainder of the year. In addition to this exhibit, the Historical Society will highlight the profiles of these remarkable women in a series of lectures and smaller exhibits at the Miller Library and in the Historical Center on the 2nd Floor.

We invite you to join us in this celebration of the 19th Amendment and our year long festivities.

I submitted an entry last week on the “I want to volunteer” form, but I haven’t heard back, so I am following up. How can I get involved?

    Dear LWV Of Howard County:

I wanted to inquire about the possibility of speaking at LWV Of Howard County on behalf of FixUS.

An initiative of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, FixUS was established to better understand the root causes of the growing divisions of our hyper-partisan environment, bring attention to the issues and the need to fix them, and build support for the necessary changes.

As part of the initiative, we launched a FixUS Nationwide Roadshow and Listening Tour. Our roadshow events are often hosted by local civic, community, and business groups, as well as academic institutions.

They encourage dialogue among audiences around the country about the roots of our political dysfunction and how we can fix it in order to address the growing debt and other challenges facing the United States.

We’d welcome the opportunity to speak at LWV Of Howard County. If you are interested please let me know.

On March 25th the South Bend, Indiana chapter of the League underwrote a radio play on WVPE entitled “Happy Family”. Based on actual events, the play tells the story of a group of 1970s working women who sued a major corporation for equal pay and equal opportunity. They had to cope with high priced corporate lawyers, company spies and violence, but in the end they won.

If any of your members would like to listen to the play, it is available at no charge as a podcast series on all the major platforms – Spotify, i-Tunes podcast, SoundCloud, etc. It is also available on the WVPE website.

Please accept my thanks for your time and attention.

Will we doing poll evaluation like we did for the primary? I think Ellen Giles lead that effort. I did this several years ago and could do so again.

Please join others in the community on Monday, April 9 at 5:30pm for the first public hearing of the Howard County Council’s Economic Opportunity and Prosperity Task Force. Your insights would be valuable to hear, and if a LWV representative cannot attend, electronic testimony is welcome. Here’s the link to the Task Force:

Do you offer voter registration tables at events? I was at the Women’s March in Frederick today, where they had a robust registration effort happening, and thought that it would be great addition to one of our PTA events at Swansfield ES, where I’m the PTA president. Would you be willing to send a few volunteers and set up a table? If not, do you know of a local org who would?
