We are proud to co-sponsor this year's Legislative Breakfast with the Howard County LIbrary System as part of our joint civic education partnership.

At this event, we will serve light refreshments and we will hear from the Howard County Delegation to the Maryland General Assembly

This is an 'in-person' event and will be held in the Belmont/Hockley rooms of the Elkridge Branch of the Howard County Library

Doors open at 10am.  Grab a coffee and a snack and meet your fellow attendees.

Note: we are keeping an eye on the weather and will follow the library's inclement weather policy.  A follow up email will be sent Friday evening, to all those who have RSVP'd to this event.

Background Information

The Maryland General Assembly consists of the House of Delegates and Maryland Senate. The Legislature is responsible for passing a budget. The Governor can propose programs, taxes, etc., but the Legislature must approve those expenditures and find the revenue to pay the bills. They also are responsible for bills regulating public services (like public schools), private enterprise (utility regulation, pollution controls, fracking), regulate certain privileges (firearms, drivers licenses, and abortion access) and criminal activity (juvenile justice reform and cannabis reform). They write the laws that govern daily life here in Maryland.
