POSITIONS, POSITIONS, POSITIONS!

The February Unit Meetings will be held on February 19 th at 10:00 a.m. at the Residences at Vantage Point and on February 20 th at 7:00 p.m. at Historic Oakland. These meetings will meet our annual obligation to review League position statements which enable our League to testify at the local level on issues which are priorities for Howard County. We need to determine if revisions and/or deletions should be made.  At this meeting, we also need to discuss possible "Studies" for the 2020 – 2021 LWVHC year.
Our current positions can be found on pages 16-20 of the LWVHC 2019-2020 Handbook.  You can access the handbook on the League's website at https://hoco.lwvhowardmd.org/lwvhc_handbook    Select LWVHC under “Positions.”
In addition, we have been asked to review the positions of the LWVUS, our national organization, to determine if revisions or deletions should be made. Positions at the state and national level are important to us as we can use these positions as we testify on issues in Howard County. At our February meetings, we will only be examining positions that are LWVUS priorities or those that impact the work that we are doing in Howard County.
The LWVUS positions can be found in the LWVHC 2019-2020 Handbook on pages 32-53.  We will only be looking at specific items in the following sections:
Section I. Representative Government:
Section III. Natural Resources - p. 40
Section IV. Social Policy - p. 46
Non-League members are welcome to attend the February Unit Meetings, however only LWVHC members may vote on decisions to be made.
We look forward to your participation!
