United Nations Day Commemoration Program – We will hold a program to commemorate United Nations Day on Monday, October 24, 2016 at Savage Branch of the Howard County Library in the DaVinci Room from 7 to 8:30 pm. Our speaker will be Sawson Al-Sayyab who is the Interim Resettlement Manger and WPE / Bridge to Safety program focal point at the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in the Baltimore office at the Baltimore Resettlement Center, where she has worked for the past 7 years. Ms. Al-Sayyab has been a humanitarian aid worker since 2003, working with several international nonprofits in Iraq and Jordan focusing on women’s economic empowerment and health education programs emergency medical interventions. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy from Baghdad University in Iraq and has spent 14 years working in the Iraqi Ministry of Health as Senior Pharmacist. Ms. Al-Sayyab is a strong advocate for refugee women’s empowerment and education. Being a refugee herself, she understands well the challenges facing newly resettled women and men.
